En 1910 el combustible que era a base de carbón es substituido por petróleo, obteniendo una economía del 40%. Contaba con servicio médico, hospital y farmacia, escuela mixta para los niños de los operarios y cuartel de la tropa de carabineros que atendían las cuatro oficinas de la Compañía y estación del ferrocarril.
