&lt;p&gt;José Antonio Moreno Palazuelos, nace en Copiapó en 1812 y fué más conocido como el “Manco Moreno”. Minero y explorador del desierto, descubridor de numerosas minas y empresario progresista. Durante su juventud, Moreno había trabajado en uno de los establecimientos mineros de la familia Gallo, en Copiapó, llegando a ser un eficiente mayordomo y luego administrador de la mina Candelaria de Chañarcillo. Pronto inició cateos y exploraciones por el desierto en busca de derroteros mineros en Chañaral, Mejillones y Paposo. Le preocupó atravesar personalmente cerros y quebradas para corroborar lo que sostenían viejos lugareños cuando aseguraban que el cobre afloraba casi nativo a la vista del cateador.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;A partir de 1856 comenzaron a viajar por mar a Caldera los enviados de Moreno que llevaban los pedimentos de nuevas minas ubicadas dentro de la estancia de Paposo. Allí su cuñado Juan Zuleta Hidalgo, la hermana de éste y esposa de Moreno, doña Delfina Zuleta, su hermana María Moreno de Garnham y el esposo de ésta y gran colaborador de don José Antonio, Juan Esteban Garnham, se encargaban de tramitar los escritos en la Escribanía de Caldera y solicitar que las mensuras fueran autorizadas sin demora. En otro momento aparecen como representando a Moreno don Enrique Ernesto Schmidt, “natural de Hamburgo”; Elías y Domingo Almendares, naturales de Paposo, además de Manuel Ossa, otro incansable cateador del Desierto.&lt;/p&gt;&#13;
&lt;p&gt;De esta forma fueron surgiendo los títulos de las nuevas minas: Parrilla (1856), Monte Cristo (1857), Colorada (1858), Abundancia (1859), todas “en el cerro de Yumbes”, y luego la Descubridora, Portezuelo, Reventón, Bella Vista, Julia (antes conocida como San José de Yumbes, lo que se cambió por el nombre de la hija de Moreno); Casualidad, Diablo, Veta Gruesa o Manto, Salvadora, Diana, Venus, Julia de Plata, San Rafael, Santa Rosa, Santo Domingo y otras.&lt;/p&gt;</text>
